RV MAINTENANCE TIPS

With fall weather in full force, it’s time to think about preparing and storing your recreational vehicle for the season. To help make sure you can get back on the road as painlessly as possible next spring, it’s important to take the proper steps now to avoid any problems later. To help, we’ve put together some tips to make sure you get back on the road quickly once the weather warms up again:

  • Clean it up – Thoroughly clean your vehicle inside and out to, making sure you hit all the areas, including awnings, wheel wells and tires.
  • Remove any valuables – Expensive items are attractive targets for thieves and could also be damaged by the cold weather.
  • Change the fluids – Fill your gas tank and put in new oil and brake fluid to help prevent corrosion and moisture buildup in the tanks.
  • Drain the tanks -Any water that remains in your system can freeze, expand, and damage your plumbing.
  • Cover it up – Invest in a high quality, well-fitted cover, especially if it will be stored outdoors to protect your vehicle from the harsh winter elements.
  • Check the tires -Inflate your tires to their maximum pressure, so they slowly deflate as the temperature drops.
  • Animal-proof it – Do a full inspection of your vehicle for cracks, holes, or openings that an insect or animal could fit through and block them with steel wool or foam insulation to keep out unwanted visitors.

If you can, go inside a few times during the winter season to confirm that there are no issues. Remember: the sooner you spot a problem, the easier it will be to repair it.
